Dr. Cicero Books is pleased to announce the publication of Oedipus After Colonus and Other Plays.
Turning the two Oedipus dramas by Sophocles into a trilogy, Oedipus After Colonus was premiered Off-Broadway at HERE by Dangerous Ground Productions. The director was Crichton Atkinson, with video projections by Richard Gartrell and Andrew Lush and a live score created by electronic musician Brenda Hutchinson.
Sophocles tells us that Oedipus vanishes, that he is snatched away by the gods. But where does he go, what happens to him? The event of Oedipus’ death was witnessed by two people, the politician Theseus who saw nothing because he hid his face in his hands, and a lowly messenger, who, having seen very little, has nothing much to report. It is a mystery. This is the starting point for Kelly’s play.
The production moved to the Byrdcliffe Theater in Woodstock, where it played to packed house once more. Since then, Kelly has continued to write drama alongside his poetry. Dr. Cicero is proud to present the results of this fresh inspiration.
